Event Details

An interfaith gathering to celebrate the legacy and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be hosted by Congregation Beth El and Memorial Congregational Church at 1:30 PM on Sunday, January 19 at Beth El (105 Hudson Road, Sudbury).

“Strength to Love: Awakening the Dream” is a free event, open to the public.  The gathering will feature singers from both communities, clips of Dr. King’s speeches and an interfaith reflection on his call to love, justice, and action.

“The violence in houses of worship in New York and Texas have given a new relevance to this event,” Rabbi Josh Breindel (Congregation Beth El) explained.  “Dr. King’s message of peace and unity among people of faith is an important wake-up call in our own times.”  Reverend Tom O’Brien added, “We’ve designed this program to be accessible to people of all faiths and none.  It’s a call for us to see one another as we truly are; imperfect and holy, each doing our best to bring healing to our communities.”

Light refreshments will be served at the close of the program.  Beth El is an accessible facility; assistive listening devices are available upon request.  Congregation Beth El is a diverse, inclusive, and egalitarian spiritual community affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism.  Memorial Congregational Church is an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ.  Both congregations are open to and accepting of all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, marital status, religious backgrounds, family constellations, or financial situation.  For more information visit BethElSudbury.org or MCCsudbury.org.
